While many of our van adventures take us away from our home town, we also love exploring our home town. #Vanlife adventures come in all shapes and sizes. If you have young kids or don’t want to be “off the grid” all weekend, an urban adventure is just the thing. Here’s our recommendations for exploring Boise, Idaho.

Boise has a thriving and easy to access downtown that is a breath of fresh air for anyone coming from a big city. No traffic, lots of parking and easy access to the outdoors. Downtown is walkable, clean, safe and friendly.

Here’s how we might spend our day exploring Boise:

• Coffee and a breakfast sandwich at Certified Bakery in the North End, followed by a hike or playground time at Camelsback Park 
• Start your exploration of downtown with a walk through the Basque Block neighborhood. If you love to cook, sign up for a paella making class at the Basque market. Or grab some picnic supplies for lunch. Home to the largest Basque population in the U.S., this area is a treasure of Basque culture and amazing food.
• Explore restaurants in the heart of downtown on 8th Street… Bittercreek Ale House, Red Feather Lounge, 10 Barrel Brewing and Even Stevens are a few of our favs!
• Take a stroll down Freak Alley. The art is constantly changing and provides a great backdrop for your Instagram photo opp.
• Grab your bike and head to the greenbelt. It’s not uncommon to see eagles, blue heron and other wildlife along this Boise outdoor treasure. There are several free parking spots to access the greenbelt. And, if you want to try some local brews, stop in at Lost Grove or Payette Brewing along the way.
