Avoid Winter Travel Mistakes
Do you know how to avoid common winter travel mistakes?
Vans can be great for winter adventures but not if you find yourself unprepared for the weather. Here’s some common mistakes and how to avoid them…
- Mistake #1: Being unprepared for wintry road conditions
Be sure to check the forecast and road conditions, especially when considering traveling over mountain passes, up to a ski resort, or visiting a national park.
- Mistake #2: Your vehicle is unprepared
Did you check to be sure your tires are in good condition? Do you carry chains if required? Do you have a full tank of gas and have plans for where you can refuel along the way?
- Mistake #3: Being unprepared for the weather
Did you pack warm layers, waterproof outerwear, gloves, a knit cap? Make sure you bring winter gear for you and your van (snow shovel, ice scraper, emergency food/water, etc.)
- Mistake #4: Nobody knows where you are headed
In the unfortunate event you get stranded, it’s helpful if someone you trust knows where you are traveling, how to get in touch and anticipated time of arrival so they can alert the authorities if you don’t show up!
