A Quick Guide to Installing the GoCode D-Pillar Trim Kit

If you’ve ever tackled a van build, you know that finishing the interior trim can be a challenge—especially when it comes to accessibility. I’ve traditionally hard-wrapped the factory pillars, and while that method has worked well over the years, it does have its downsides. That’s why I was excited to try out the GoCode D-Pillar Trim Kit and see how it compares.

What Is the GoCode D-Pillar Trim Kit?

The trim kit is made from black ABS plastic and essentially acts as a sleeve that fits over the existing trim areas. This makes installation easier and allows for better accessibility compared to a permanent hard wrap. In addition to the D-Pillar trim, GoCode also offers front section covers, blob covers, and a new component called the bulkhead.

Installation Breakdown

I wanted to walk you through my approach to installing this kit, along with some key measurements to make the process smoother.

Key Components & Measurements

  • Center Section: 63 ¾ inches (length) x 15 ½ inches (width)

  • Lap Joints: Approximately 8 inches wide x 20 inches long, with a ½-inch lap joint at the back

  • Corner Section: This part requires a custom cut to ensure a proper fit. Simply squaring off the ends won’t work, as the joint would have to be set too far inward, making it difficult to align properly.

Challenges & Adjustments

One of the trickiest parts of the installation was getting the lap joints to fit correctly. If the pieces aren’t aligned properly, they can be nearly impossible to attach securely while maintaining a clean look. To work around this, I marked the necessary cutouts and made adjustments so that the trim would wrap around smoothly.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the GoCode D-Pillar Trim Kit offers a sleek and functional alternative to hard-wrapping factory pillars. It’s an easy-to-install solution that enhances accessibility without sacrificing aesthetics. While it does take some fine-tuning to get the fit just right, the results are well worth the effort.

If you’re working on a van build and looking for a hassle-free way to trim out your D-Pillars, this kit is definitely worth considering!
